If you love getting out on the water and fancy an active day during your Costa Blanca holiday, you need to look into Denia’s amazing kayak excursions. Regardless whether a complete beginner or someone who’s been paddling for years, all of the local tours and excursions will show you some of the most stunning coastline in Spain.

From gentle paddles perfect for families to more adventurous routes that’ll challenge even experienced kayakers, Denia’s got the kayak routes you’re looking for.
The full Cova Tallada experience (3 hours)
This is hands down my favourite kayak excursion in Denia! This is the complete Cova Tallada adventure that I’d recommend if you want the proper experience of this incredible sea cave.
You’ll meet at Mena Restaurant parking at Les Rotes and spend a full 3 hours on this adventure. The route takes you along the dramatic cliffs of Cabo de San Antonio to reach the famous Cova Tallada – a spectacular sea cave that you can actually paddle inside.
What makes this tour brilliant is that you’ll get out of your kayak and actually walk inside the cave with torches whilst your guide explains all the fascinating history and stories about this incredible place. The cave is absolutely incredible – it’s a natural formation carved into the limestone cliffs, and when the sunlight hits the water inside, it creates this amazing blue glow that you won’t forget.
They include a lunch break with cereal bars, chocolate, croissants, and fresh fruit, which is perfect timing after all that paddling! The snorkelling time is generous too, so you can really make the most of the crystal-clear waters around the cave entrance.
What’s included in the kayak tour (and restrictions)
Everything’s included: Kayak, paddle, life jacket, wetsuit (if needed), snorkelling equipment, water, lunch, photos/videos, insurance, qualified guides, and even footwear.
Age and fitness requirements: Ages 14+ only with a maximum weight of 115kg (254 lbs). You must know how to swim, and it’s not suitable for pregnant women. You’ll need moderate fitness as there’s open water paddling involved.
What to bring: Sun cream, hat, swimming costume, towel, and waterproof phone case if you want extra photos.
The guides are fantastic and will adjust the pace to suit your group. They have over 10 years of experience and are qualified in kayaking instruction, so you’re in safe hands throughout.
Family-friendly Cova Tallada adventure (2.5 hours)
If you’re travelling with children or want a shorter adventure, this option is better suited, while still giving you the amazing Cova Tallada experience.
Why families love this tour
Meeting at Restaurant Ca Nano (also at Las Rotas), this tour focuses on the kayaking and cave adventure without the extended lunch break. You’ll still paddle into the incredible cave and do snorkelling, plus they provide torches for exploring inside.
The big advantage is this tour allows children from age 6 upwards, making it much more family-friendly. The two-person kayaks are great for pairing adults with kids, and the guides are brilliant at keeping everyone engaged and safe.
If cliff jumping isn’t your thing, you can enjoy a peaceful snorkel while others take the plunge. It’s perfect for groups where some want thrills and others prefer a more relaxed experience!
What’s included and restrictions
Included: Kayak, paddle, life jacket, snorkelling masks, wetsuit, torches, and photos of your adventure.
Not included: Water and snacks (bring your own), though there’s secure storage for your belongings.
Age and fitness requirements: Ages 6+ with a maximum weight of 110kg (243 lbs). Perfect for families, though everyone still needs to know how to swim.
What to bring: Sun cream, water, snacks, swimming costume, proper water shoes or sandals, and towel.
This option gives you the core Cova Tallada experience in a shorter timeframe that works better for younger attention spans.
Helpful tips for your Denia kayak adventure
Do I need kayaking experience?
Don’t worry if you’ve never been kayaking before – these tours are designed for all abilities. The guides will give you a full safety briefing and basic paddling instruction before you set off. The kayaks used are typically very stable sit-on-top models that are almost impossible to tip over. Even if you do end up in the water (which is rare), you’re wearing a life jacket and the guides are always nearby.

Most tours involve some walking on rocky areas to access caves or swimming spots, so bring water shoes that let you walk on rocks in comfortably.
Here’s what I always bring on kayak excursions:
- Sun cream (loads of it – you’ll be on the water for hours)
- A hat that won’t blow off easily
- Water bottle (though many tours provide this)
- Quick-dry clothing / swimwear
- Towel for afterwards (best to leave it at the kayak centre – it will get soaked if you take it to sea!)
- Waterproof phone case if you want to take photos
Booking your kayak excursion
Most kayak tour companies in Denia are located around the Denia marina area. I’d recommend booking in advance during summer months as the popular tours do fill up quickly.
Companies like Denia Aventura and Cabo San Antonio offer excellent tours with experienced guides who speak English. They’re also properly insured and follow all safety regulations, which is important when you’re out on the water.
Best time to go kayaking in Denia
The kayaking season in Denia runs from April through to October, though you can sometimes find tours running in the winter months if the weather’s good.
My favourite months are May, June, and September. The water’s warm enough for swimming, the weather’s typically lovely, and you’ll avoid the peak summer crowds. July and August are good too, but expect intense heat, busier tours and higher prices.
Prices vary depending on the length and type of tour, but expect to pay anywhere from €25 for a short harbour tour up to €55 for the longer cave excursions with snorkelling included.
What should I bring?
- Swimwear (wear it under your clothes)
- A hat and sunglasses (with a strap if possible)
- Sun cream (water-resistant)
- A towel
- A bottle of water
- A change of clothes for afterwards
- A camera (waterproof if you have one, though most tours take photos for you)
Combining with other activities
If you’re staying in Denia for a few days, kayaking combines brilliantly with other activities in the area. You could easily do a morning kayak tour and spend the afternoon on one of Denia’s lovely beaches.
For the real kayaking enthusiasts, I’d highly recommend checking out the kayak excursions in Javea too – it’s only about 20 minutes drive north of Denia and has even more kayaking options. Javea’s coastline is absolutely spectacular, with hidden coves and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for paddling. The Portixol Island kayak tours from Javea are particularly brilliant if you want to add another kayaking adventure to your Costa Blanca holiday.

If kayaking isn’t quite right for you
Not everyone fancies the paddling aspect of sea adventures, and that’s completely fine! If you’d prefer to sit back and let someone else do the work whilst still seeing Denia’s stunning coastline, the boat tours in Denia are absolutely fantastic.
You’ll visit many of the same spots including Cova Tallada, but with the comfort of a proper boat and often with more time to relax and take in the scenery. The boat tours typically include snorkelling stops and some even offer lunch on board. It’s a brilliant alternative if you’re travelling with elderly family members or anyone who might find kayaking too physically demanding.
