How far is Alicante airport from Torrevieja?
Alicante Airport (ALC) is located approximately 44 kilometres (27 miles) south of Torrevieja.
The journey takes between 35-50 minutes depending on your transport choice and traffic conditions. You have two main road options: the coastal N-332 which offers sea views, or the faster (less scenic) AP-7 road.
Car rental at Alicante Airport
If you’re planning to visit the salt lakes, beaches, and surrounding areas of Torrevieja, renting a car is a practical option. The car rental area at Alicante Airport is located in a specific section that you’ll need to find.
After collecting your luggage, look for the corridor on your right before the main exit doors. All the car hire desks including Hertz, Centauro, Goldcar, EuropCar, Ok Mobility, and Firefly are set up along this passageway.

It’s worth noting that queues at these desks can be quite long during peak season (July-August), particularly between 11am-3pm.
For the best rates and to avoid queues, I suggest booking online in advance through RentalCars.com. They check all the car rental providers to find you the best deal, and you book, you’ll be able to walk straight to your chosen counter to collect the keys when you land in the airport.
When selecting a car for the Torrevieja route, consider one with good air conditioning if travelling in summer, as temperatures along this stretch of coast can be quite high.

Which transport option is best for you?
Depending on your group size and plans in Torrevieja, some transport options will suit you better than others:
- For individuals or couples: The Beniconnect shuttle service is good value, though they run on fixed schedules.
- For families with children: Hiring your own car is the best option for convinence. Otherwise private transfer takes the stress out of your arrival, delivering you directly to your accommodation without the need to wait or transfer luggage multiple times.
- For longer stays or plans to visit nearby areas: Car rental gives you the most flexibility to visit Torrevieja’s salt lakes, La Mata Natural Park, and nearby towns for day trips from Torrevieja like Guardamar del Segura and Orihuela Costa.
- For large groups: Beniconnect’s private minibus services become very cost-effective when split between 6-8 people.
Torrevieja itself has good local buses, so if you’re staying within the town and not planning many day trips, you might not need a car at all. However, having one does open up possibilities for seeing more of what the southern Costa Blanca has to offer!
