What is L’Albarda Garden?

Created in 1990, L’Albarda spans 50,000 square metres and showcases over 700 species of plants native to the region. The collections of roses and palm trees are truly worth the trip over.

The garden mixes formal Renaissance-style sections with wilder areas, all set against the beautiful backdrop of mountain views. As you walk around, you’ll notice lots of Arab influences in the design – from the water features to the tiled walls.

You’ll find lovely walkways, pergolas, fountains and pools as you wander through.

How to get to L’Albarda Garden from Denia

L’Albarda Garden sits about 6 kilometres from Denia town centre, near the village of Pedreguer. It’s a straightforward drive that takes around 15 minutes.

From Denia, head south on the CV-725 towards Ondara, then take the CV-732 towards Pedreguer. You’ll see signs for L’Albarda Garden as you get closer. There’s a car park on site where you can leave your vehicle free of charge.

If you don’t have a car, a taxi from Denia will cost roughly €15-20 each way. It’s best to arrange with the driver to pick you up later, as taxis aren’t readily available at the garden.

What to see at L’Albarda Garden

When you arrive, I’d recommend starting at the main house and formal garden to get your bearings before heading off to see the rest of the grounds.

The garden has several sections to check out:

  • The formal Renaissance garden – with its symmetrical design and carefully planned layout
  • The wild garden area – more natural and relaxed, showing off native plants
  • The rose collection – particularly gorgeous if you visit in late spring
  • The palm tree section – impressive specimens that add real character

Keep an eye out for the gorgeous water features throughout the garden.

When to visit L’Albarda Garden

The garden is open year-round, but spring (April to June) is arguably the best time to visit when many plants are in bloom and the weather in Denia is at its best. That said, each season offers something different:

  • Spring will see the flowers bloom
  • Summer showcases the garden’s clever design for shade and cooling
  • Autumn offers lovely colours as some plants change
  • Winter reveals the garden’s structural elements more clearly

If you’re visiting in summer, I’d suggest going earlier in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the strongest heat.

Tickets and practical information

Entry to L’Albarda Garden costs €7 per person, which is excellent value for the experience. You can book your tickets online through Get Your Guide to make your visit smoother.

The garden is part of FUNDEM, a foundation dedicated to the conservation of Mediterranean fauna and flora, so your entry fee supports important environmental work.

A few practical tips:

  • Allow at least 1-2 hours for your visit
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes
  • Bring a bottle of water, especially in summer
  • A hat and/or sun cream are essential in warmer months
  • Don’t forget your camera – there are countless photo opportunities

My top tips

Take your time here – this isn’t a place to rush through. Find a quiet bench in a shady spot, sit down for a while, and just take in the atmosphere. It’s incredibly peaceful and makes for a brilliant contrast if you’ve been spending time on Denia’s busy beaches.

The garden is a fantastic spot to recharge your batteries before heading back to the hustle and bustle of town life. And if you’re a keen gardener yourself, you might even pick up some ideas to take home!
