If you’re staying in Villajoyosa and love a good market browse, you’re in for a real treat! This town has a couple of fantastic markets which are perfect for picking up everything from fresh produce to unique souvenirs.

I’ve put together this guide to help you make the most of your market visits in Villajoyosa, where to find them with all the practical details you need to know.
Central Market Villajoyosa
This is the main indoor market in town, and it’s absolutely brilliant for daily shopping. With over 200 stalls under one roof, you’ll find everything you could possibly need here.

The market is open every day from 8:30am until 3pm, except Sundays when it’s closed. I’d recommend getting there earlier in the morning when everything’s fresh and the crowds are lighter.
What you’ll find
The food section is incredible – you’ll see stalls piled high with fresh fruit and vegetables, many grown locally. The quality is fantastic and the prices are much better than what you’d pay in tourist areas. There are also stalls selling delicious local sweets and treats that make perfect gifts to take home.

Beyond the food, you’ll find clothing stalls, shoe shops, and household items. It’s one of those markets where you can sort out your weekly shopping and pick up a new outfit at the same time!

Thursday street market (Mercadillo)
Every Thursday, Avenida de Bernat Sarriá comes alive with this fantastic street market. It has such a different feel from the indoor market – it’s more local, full of life, and you’ll hear plenty of Spanish chatter as locals do their weekly shopping.

There are around a hundred different stalls here, and the variety is amazing. You’ll find everything from clothing and accessories to fresh produce – fruits, vegetables, pastries, nuts, clothing, and more.
What makes it special
This market doesn’t sell fresh meat or fish, but honestly, they have just about everything else. The prices are usually much cheaper than what you’ll pay on the high street, which makes it perfect for bargain hunters.
Leather goods are a real speciality here – you’ll find bags, belts, and shoes at brilliant prices. The quality is generally very good too, so it’s worth having a proper look around.

Where to find the Villajoyosa Thursday street market:
The address is: C. Carles Llorca i Baus, 1, 03570 La Vila Joiosa, Alicante, Spain. You can find it near the Villajoyosa tram stop (Creueta).
My top tips for visiting
- Get there early (around 9am) for the best selection and to avoid the midday heat
- Bring cash – most stalls prefer it and you might get better prices
- Don’t be afraid to have a friendly chat with the stallholders – many speak some English and they love sharing recommendations
- Bring a bag or trolley if you’re planning to buy fresh produce
Both markets are fantastic ways to experience local life in Villajoyosa while picking up some great bargains. The Thursday market has that authentic Spanish market atmosphere, while the Central Market is perfect for convenient daily shopping. Either way, you’re guaranteed to find something special!
