Benidorm English Square: Best Bars, Clubs & Wild Nights Out

If you’re planning a lads’ holiday, hen do, or just fancy a proper British night out under the Spanish sun, Benidorm English Square is exactly what you’re looking for. This legendary stretch of bars, pubs, and clubs has been the heart of British nightlife on the Costa Blanca for decades.

I’ve put together everything you need to know about the Benidorm English Square – from the best bars, clubs and strip shows to where you’ll find the cheapest drinks and the wildest entertainment.

What is the English Square?

The English Square runs along Calle Gerona and the surrounding streets in the heart of Benidorm’s old town. It’s packed with British-owned bars, pubs showing Premier League football, and clubs that stay open until the early hours.

The English Square is one of the most famous and liveliest night time destinations in the city and is not for the faint of heart – you’ll either love it or hate it!

You’ll hear more English spoken here than Spanish, and most of the staff are British expats who’ve made Benidorm their permanent home. The atmosphere is pure British holiday madness – think Blackpool meets Ibiza with year-round sunshine!

Where to find Benidorm’s English Square

The main street is Calle Gerona, which runs parallel to Levante Beach. You’ll also find plenty of action on the connecting streets like Calle Lepanto and Calle Ibiza.

Once you hear the sound of British voices and see the Union Jack flags, you’ll know you’re in the right place!

Perfect for the younger crowd looking to dance the night away! This disco pub right in the heart of the English Square has a brilliant atmosphere and fantastic music that keeps the dance floor packed.

The bar staff are really friendly, and the drinks are well-priced with generous measures – always a winner when you’re planning a big night out. It’s particularly lively during summer months when the place comes alive with holidaymakers.

Located opposite the racecourse, this place has that proper party atmosphere that stag and hen groups love. You can’t really describe what goes on here – you just have to experience it for yourself! It’s one of those places where anything can happen, and usually does.

Pub Hippodrome

📍Open in Google Maps: Av. de Mallorca, Local 24, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

Many people reckon this is the best club on the English square, and it’s easy to see why. Free entry, brilliant atmosphere, and they stay open until the early hours – perfect if you want to party hard all night long.

The music here is spot on for dancing, with dance tunes rather than the usual cheesy pop you’ll find elsewhere in Benidorm. The staff are fantastic, the door team and reps are sound, and they even do free shots to keep the party going.

They show sport when it’s on from football to UFC, so you won’t miss any big matches. Once its finished, it transforms back into party venue! The atmosphere gets mental, especially at weekends, and it’s become legendary among the British crowd.

If you get fed up with the typical tourist bars and want somewhere with genuinely good music and a cracking party atmosphere, this is your place.

Cafe Benidorm

📍Open in Google Maps: Av. de Mallorca, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

Cafe B is right in the middle of the English Square and stays packed all night long with a brilliant atmosphere and friendly staff who know how to have a laugh.

They often do 2-for-1 drink offers which makes it great value, and the cocktails are very reasonable too. There’s plenty of dancing, good music, and the crowd is always up for it.

What really makes this place special is Coco Chanel, the drag artist who puts on the best drag show in Benidorm. The comedy drag performances are absolutely hilarious – you’ll be crying with laughter! If you want a seat for the show, get there early as it gets packed.

They’ve also got a large outside terrace with big LED screens showing sport, so you can catch the football while having a drink. The tribute artists here are brilliant too, and the whole place has that proper party atmosphere that makes Benidorm nights so memorable.

Red Dog Western Saloon

📍Open in Google Maps: C. Lepanto, 15, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

This place is brilliant for line dancing, country music, and cowboy atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly, and the variety of entertainment goes from line dancing lessons to country singers – and sometimes even strip-tease shows!

Friday and Saturday nights are dedicated to stag and hen parties, with reps from Benidorm Stag and Hen Guide getting groups involved in the shows. Look out for 2-for-1 drinks deals which makes it even better value.

Chaplins Bar

📍Open in Google Maps: Av. de Mallorca, 4, 03501 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

This is definitely not one for the easily offended! Chaplins is famous for its adult shows, including the legendary Sticky Vicky and the infamous Segway Sex Show. Entry is free, drinks are reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is electric when the shows are on. Perfect for stag dos, hen dos, or groups who aren’t easily shocked.

You’ll either love it or hate it, but you’ll definitely remember it! It’s absolutely mental and not for the faint-hearted, but if you’re open-minded and up for a laugh, it’s one to visit.

The venue can go from completely dead to absolutely rammed in minutes – shows start at 10:30pm and the place fills up about 10 minutes before. Get there early (around 9:30pm) if you want a decent seat, especially for the front row action.

Morgan Tavern

📍Open in Google Maps: C. Gerona, 42, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

Made famous by the TV show Benidorm, Morgan Tavern is right at the end of the square and absolutely lives up to its reputation. This place has some of the best live entertainment in Benidorm, with different acts performing every hour from 7pm until 3am, seven nights a week.

The tribute acts here are genuinely impressive – you’ll see everything from Queen Forever to other top-quality performers. The atmosphere is electric every single night, though be prepared for it to get absolutely packed and expect the occasional drunk punter bumping into you.

Drinks are slightly pricier than some other bars on the square, but the quality of entertainment makes it worth paying extra.

Talk of the Coast

📍Open in Google Maps: C. Gerona, 42, 03503 Benidorm, Alicante, Spain

The range of performers here is incredible – from the best Michael Jackson tribute show you’ll ever see to brilliant Jersey Boys, Elvis, and Jimmy Bright performances. The Eminem tribute is absolutely mental and definitely worth catching if he’s on.

There’s plenty of seating, so you can actually relax and enjoy the shows properly rather than standing around all night.

They’ve got Abba tributes, The Drifters, and loads of other quality acts throughout the week. If you’re going to Benidorm, don’t miss this place – it’s become a proper favourite with people who’ve been coming back for years.

Drinks are reasonably priced throughout the week. It’s got a good-sized dance floor and stays open late with music until morning. Don’t expect a proper nightclub – it’s more of a disco pub with a cracking DJ and brilliant atmosphere.

Benidorm strip clubs and adult entertainment

Benidorm has several strip clubs for those looking for adult entertainment. The most famous performer is Sticky Vicky, who’s become a Benidorm legend with her unique shows that have been shocking and entertaining audiences for decades. You’ll find her performing at various venues around the square.

Most strip clubs are located just off the main English square and are clearly signposted. Prices vary, but expect to pay entry fees plus drinks.

Always check what’s included before you go in, and don’t be surprised if there are additional charges for certain shows or private dances.

The shows range from traditional strip performances to more unusual acts – Benidorm’s adult entertainment scene is known for pushing boundaries and being pretty outrageous!

What to expect on a night out

Benidorm English square comes alive around 9pm and doesn’t really get going until after 11pm. Most bars stay open until 3am or 4am, with some of the clubs pushing through until sunrise.

Drinks are generally cheaper than back home – expect to pay around €3-5 for a pint of lager. Many bars do happy hour deals, especially early in the evening.

The crowd varies depending on the time of year. Summer brings the young party crowd, stag and hen dos, and families on holiday. Winter sees more of the British expat community and older visitors escaping the British weather.

Live entertainment and shows

Almost every bar has some form of live entertainment. You’ll find:

  • Tribute acts doing everything from Elvis to Take That
  • Drag shows and cabaret performances
  • Live bands playing classic rock and pop covers
  • Karaoke nights where anyone can have a go
  • Comedy shows featuring British comedians

The quality varies wildly – some acts are genuinely talented, while others are wonderfully awful in the best possible way. It’s all part of the charm!

Food along the square

Most bars serve British pub classics alongside Spanish dishes. You’ll find proper fish and chips, Sunday roasts, full English breakfasts, and curry nights. The quality is generally decent, though don’t expect Michelin star dining.

For late-night munchies, there are plenty of kebab shops and burger joints that stay open until the early hours. Perfect for soaking up the alcohol before heading back to your hotel.

Make sure to eat on your night out, as drink measures are likely far stronger than back home!

Tips for visiting the English square in Benidorm

  • Pace yourself – the drinks are cheaper than back home, and Spanish free pour their spirits – meaning your drinks are ALOT stronger. The night goes on much longer, so do make sure to drink water and eat food throughout the night.
  • Bring cash – while most places take cards, having cash makes things easier, especially for tips and smaller bars.
  • Don’t dress too smart – this isn’t a sophisticated wine bar district. Casual clothes and comfortable shoes are the way to go.
  • Learn some basic Spanish – while everyone speaks English, the local Spanish staff appreciate the effort, and it might get you better service (and even some free shots)
  • Book accommodation nearby – staying nearby means you can get back back to your hotel easily and avoid expensive taxi rides.

Safety and common sense

The English square is generally safe, but like any busy nightlife area, keep your wits about you and try to be considerate of others when visiting.

Drink spiking is rare but not unheard of, so keep an eye on your drinks and look out for your mates. The local police patrol regularly, and there’s usually a good mix of security staff from the various venues.

Pickpockets can be an issue in crowded bars, so don’t flash expensive items around.

When to visit the English Square

The square is busiest during summer months (June to September) when the weather is hottest and the most tourists are in town. If you prefer it slightly calmer but still lively, spring and autumn are great times to visit but far quieter.

Winter still has plenty going on thanks to the expat community, though some of the more touristy venues might be closed or have reduced hours – expect it to be quieter.

Getting there and around

The English square is easily walkable from most Benidorm hotels. If you’re staying further out, Benidorm taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced. There are taxi stops on Avenida de Europa, at the end of Calle Lepanto.

See the map below for taxi stops in the area:

The local bus service also runs regularly, though after midnight, you’ll probably need a taxi. Most people just walk between venues on the square– everything is within a few minutes’ walk of each other.

The English square might not be sophisticated, but it’s exactly what many British visitors to Benidorm are looking for – familiar faces, cheap drinks, live entertainment, and the chance to have a proper laugh with fellow Brits under the Spanish sun.

It’s unapologetically British, wonderfully chaotic, and absolutely brilliant fun if you go with the right attitude!
