Moraira Beaches: A Complete Guide

Looking for the perfect beach in Moraira? You’ll find everything from family-friendly sandy shores to hidden rocky coves along this beautiful stretch of the Costa Blanca. Moraira’s beaches are some of the most pristine in the region.

This guide will help you find the perfect beach in Moraira to visit.

L’Ampolla Beach (Moraira beach)

  • Sandy beach with gentle slope
  • Perfect for families and easy swimming
  • Moraira castle and Calpe rock views

L’Ampolla Beach is Moraira’s main beach. Sitting right in front of the town with the Moraira castle as its backdrop, l’Ampolla is picture-perfect.

The gentle slope into the sea makes this beach perfect for little ones, and the water is usually super calm thanks to the bay’s natural protection.

You’ll find everything you need here – sunbed and parasol rental, showers, toilets, and lifeguard service in summer. There’s even a children’s play area and beach volleyball court if you’re feeling active.

The town is a tiny walk away lined with restaurants and bars, perfect for when you need a break from the sun. As the day winds down, the cove provides a stunning setting for watching the sunset over the Mediterranean.

My top recommendation – visit the nearby ice cream shop Tutto Frutto nearby, to get an icecream to watch the amazing sunset.

El Portet Beach

  • Mixed sand and pebble in a sheltered bay
  • Perfect for snorkelling and peaceful swims
  • Crystal clear waters with amazing visibility

This is my personal favourite! El Portet is like a little slice of paradise tucked away in a sheltered bay about a 20-minute walk from the town centre.

The water here is so clear that you can often see fish swimming around your feet! It gets busy in summer, but there’s a really lovely atmosphere. Locals often paddleboard here as the waters are perfect for it.

Several lovely beach bars and restaurants line the bay, making it perfect for a long, lazy day by the sea. The walk there along the coast is beautiful too, offering stunning views across the Mediterranean.

Playa del Andrago

  • Type: Pebbly cove
  • Perfect for: Escaping the crowds
  • Highlight: Fantastic sunset views

Located further up the Ctra Moraira a Calpe, this small pebbly cove called Playa del Andrago is perfect if you’re looking to escape the crowds of the main Moraira beach. The natural, unspoiled setting makes it ideal for those who prefer their beaches more rugged and peaceful.

As Cala L’Andrago is a rocky beach, it’s best for snorkelling as the beach is made up of natural rock formations.

There aren’t many facilities here, so come prepared with everything you need for the day. The reward is crystal clear waters perfect for snorkelling and a peaceful atmosphere that feels worlds away from the busier beaches.

Cala Platgetes

  • Type: Series of rocky coves
  • Perfect for: Cove hopping and snorkelling
  • Highlight: Multiple swimming spots to choose from

Located about a 5-10 minute walk from the main Moraira beach at the beginning of the Ctra Moraira a Calpe, you’ll find Cala Platgetes. This is a series of small coves rather than one beach, and they’re absolutely beautiful! Each small cove has its own character, with crystal clear waters perfect for snorkelling.

Basic facilities include showers and a small beach bar in summer, plus lifeguard service in peak season. There is also a restaurant located close by called El Chamizo, offering seafood paellas and grilled food.

Cala Cap Blanc

  • Rocky cove with natural shade
  • Perfect for snorkelling
  • Pine tree backdrop for natural shade

If you’re up for a bit of an adventure, head to Cap Blanc! This hidden cove is a favorite among locals and definitely worth seeking out. The surrounding pine trees provide welcome shade in the heat of the day, and the waters are incredibly clear.

The natural setting makes it perfect for snorkelling, with plenty of marine life to discover. While facilities are limited, there’s parking nearby, making it more accessible than some of Moraira’s other hidden coves.

Water Sports & Beach Activities

The waters around Moraira are perfect for all sorts of activities. You’ll find kayak rental at El Portet and l’Ampolla – it’s a fantastic way to explore the coastline and discover hidden coves you can’t reach by foot. Stand-up paddleboarding has become really popular here too, especially in the calm morning waters.

If you’re into diving, there’s a great diving school near the marina that caters to all levels. The clear waters around Cap Blanc and Platgetes are perfect for beginners, while more experienced divers can explore deeper sites nearby.

In summer, you can rent jet skis from the main beach, and there’s also small boat hire available if you fancy exploring the coast at your own pace. The waters between Moraira and Calpe are beautiful for sailing, with stunning views of Calpe Rock in the distance.

Getting Around The Beaches

I love how easy it is to explore Moraira’s beaches. Most are within walking distance of the town centre, and the coastal walks between them are absolutely stunning. In summer, there’s a tourist train that runs between the main beaches – it’s a fun way to get around and gives you great views of the coast.

If you’re driving, you’ll find parking near all the beaches, but I’ll be honest – it fills up quickly in peak season. My advice? Get there early, especially for popular spots like l’Ampolla and El Portet. For the smaller coves like Cap Blanc and Andrago, there’s usually street parking nearby, but be prepared for a short walk.
