I’ve visited all three many times, and each offers something unique. I’ve included all the information below that you’ll need to help you decide which zoo to visit, how to get to each zoo from Alicante, and information about ticket cost.

You can book tickets for Terra Natura and Mundomar right here through Get Your Guide:

Terra Natura Benidorm

Terra Natura is an amazing wildlife park located in Benidorm, full of exotic animals and beautiful themed landscapes. Visitors can see over 1500 animals representing 200 species in the park across four themed zones.

The park has three main zones:

Asia

  • Indian elephants with their new baby born in 2024
  • Bengal tigers in their pool
  • Asian lions
  • Indian rhinos
  • Various deer species

The Americas

  • A massive aviary filled with toucans and macaws
  • Jaguars – most active in the morning
  • Playful capuchin monkeys
  • Farm animals kids can meet

Pangea

  • Rare snakes including green tree pythons
  • Poison dart frogs
  • Interesting insects
  • Lizards and reptiles

Getting to Terra Natura from Alicante

See the map below for how to drive from Terra Natura to Alicante. Terra Natura is about a 45 minute car drive from Alicante, but it is well worth the trip.

  • 45-minute drive up the A-70/AP-7
  • Take exit 65-A (signed for Terra Natura)
  • Free parking available

Opening times and tickets

Open everyday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Right now, the park is only open on Saturdays and Sundays until April 2025. Adult tickets are currently €23 (rising in summer), and under-4s go free.

Mundomar Benidorm

If you’re interested in marine life, Mundomar is brilliant. It’s smaller than Terra Natura but focused on sea life and birds.

What you’ll see

  • Dolphins doing incredible acrobatic displays
  • Clever sea lions showing off their skills
  • Exotic birds flying right over your head
  • Penguins playing in their pool

Show times

  • Dolphin shows: 1:30pm and 4:30pm
  • Sea lions: 12:45pm and 5:45pm
  • Bird displays: 11:15am, 2:30pm, 3:30pm

Getting to Mundomar from Alicante

  • 45 minutes by car, next to Aqualandia
  • Parking costs €5 for the day
  • Regular buses from Alicante to Benidorm

Opening hours and prices

Open everyday from 10:00am – 7:00pm in the current summer season.

Safari Aitana

This is Spain’s only mountain safari park, and it’s absolutely amazing!

Set high in the mountains above Alicante, you’ll drive through different zones in your own car, getting up close to:

  • Lions
  • Tigers
  • Bears
  • Giraffes
  • Zebras
  • African antelopes

What makes Safari Aitana special is the setting – the animals roam in huge spaces with the mountains as their backdrop. It’s about an hour’s drive from Alicante through some stunning mountain roads.

Getting to Safari Aitana from Alicante

It’s the furthest away out of all the zoos as its located in the mountains.

  • Drive north on the A-7 towards Alcoy
  • Take exit 65-A and follow signs for Safari Aitana
  • The last part is up mountain roads – take it steady
  • Make sure you have a full tank of fuel

Opening times and prices

  • Open daily 10am – 5pm (winter) or 6pm (summer)
  • Adults €25
  • Kids (4-10) €21
  • Under 3s free

When should I visit?

Each park offers something different:

  • Safari Aitana is great year-round – the mountain air makes it cooler in summer
  • Terra Natura is best in spring or autumn when the animals are most active
  • Mundomar is perfect for summer as there are lots of shaded areas and water features

My top tips

  • Safari Aitana: Pack a picnic – there’s a lovely area with mountain views
  • Terra Natura: Get there for opening time – the animals are most active early
  • Mundomar: Book dolphin experiences in advance – they often sell out.

Which should you choose?

If you’re in Alicante for a week, try to visit at least two:

  • Safari Aitana for a unique mountain safari experience
  • Terra Natura if you want to see lots of different land animals
  • Mundomar for amazing marine life shows

Fancy making a full day of it? Terra Natura and Mundomar each have water parks next door (Aqua Natura and Aqualandia). In summer, you can get combo tickets to their respective waterparks and make the most of both!
