If you’re staying in Altea and want to see why this stretch of the Costa Blanca is considered one of Spain’s most beautiful, there’s no better way than from a kayak! The Sierra del Morro de Toix creates an incredible backdrop for kayaking, with towering limestone cliffs dropping straight into some of the clearest waters you’ll ever see.

For anyone who loves being active on holiday, wants to see marine life up close, or simply appreciates dramatic natural scenery, the kayaking around Altea is absolutely unmissable.
Morro de Toix guided kayak excursion
The kayaking route from Altea typically takes you to see the Morro de Toix. You’ll see the base of these impressive cliffs, where you can really appreciate their scale and the way the sea has carved the coastline over millennia.

It’s about a 30-40 minute paddle from Altea’s beach, depending on sea conditions and your group’s pace.
This is the premier kayaking experience available from Altea, taking you to one of the most dramatic and beautiful sections of the Costa Blanca coastline. The Morro de Toix is this incredible limestone headland that creates a natural amphitheatre of towering cliffs and hidden caves.
Book your Morro de Toix kayaking adventure from €50 per person
You’ll paddle past some absolutely brilliant spots including:
- The dramatic limestone cliffs of the Sierra del Morro de Toix
- Ancient fishing platforms called “peixqueras” built into the rock face
- Traditional “penya” fisheries where you can still see the stone remains
- The spectacular Cueva dels Coloms – a sea cave only accessible by kayak
- Hidden coves with turquoise waters perfect for swimming
One of my favourite parts is entering the Cueva dels Coloms. This incredible sea cave has been carved by thousands of years of wave action, and paddling inside feels like entering a natural cathedral! The acoustics are amazing, and the way the light filters through creates an almost mystical atmosphere.
The tour also includes fantastic snorkelling opportunities in the crystal-clear waters around the cliffs. The rocky underwater terrain is home to loads of Mediterranean marine life, and your guide knows exactly where to find the best spots for underwater viewing.
You’ll stop at a secluded cove with stunning turquoise waters where you can stretch your legs, have a proper swim, and recharge before heading back to Altea. These hidden beaches are only accessible by boat, so you’ll often have them practically to yourself.
What’s included:
- Expert kayaking guide with knowledge of local history
- All kayaking equipment including helmet and life vest
- Professional snorkelling gear and goggles
- Photos and video footage of your adventure
- Safety briefing and basic paddling instruction
Tips for your Altea kayaking adventure
Based on my own experiences kayaking around Altea, here are some handy tips:
- Wear swimwear and a t-shirt (or rash vest) that can get wet
- Bring sun cream, a hat, and sunglasses with a strap
- Take a small towel and a change of clothes for afterwards
- Water shoes are brilliant if you have them
- A waterproof phone case is useful for taking your own photos
The tour usually lasts around 3-4 hours, so be prepared for a good workout! Most tours operate from May to October when the sea is calmest.
This kayaking tour is suitable for most people, including beginners, but you should be reasonably fit and comfortable in the water. Children usually need to be at least 8-10 years old to participate, but check with the tour provider for specific requirements.
If you’re staying in Altea and looking for a fun day out that combines a bit of activity with incredible scenery and swimming spots, this kayak tour is absolutely perfect. It’s such a fantastic way to see the dramatic Morro de Toix coastline from a completely different angle!
