If you’re looking for a brilliant day trip while visiting Benidorm, you need to take a boat out to Benidorm Island! The locals actually call it “Peacock Island” and it’s a small island just off the coast.

About Benidorm Island
Benidorm Island sits just two and a half nautical miles from the coast, right in front of the Canfali headland that splits Benidorm’s two beautiful beaches, Levante and Poniente.

An interesting bit of trivia – on 26th May 1970, the island was officially named “The Island of Journalists” during a National Assembly of Journalists held in Benidorm.
Boat tickets and travel info
Two boats make the approximately 20-minute journey to and from the island, with hourly departures:
- Boat options: You can travel on either the catamaran Aquario II or the Bahia de Benidorm
- Departure point: Port Esportiu de Benidorm, Paseo de Colon, Benidorm, Alicante, Spain (in the port area of the old town)
- Schedule: Boats depart every hour throughout the day
- Season: Services run all year round, weather permitting
Depart from the location below:
The ticket includes:
- Return boat trip to the island
- Underwater views of the marine life around the island
If you travel on the Aquario II catamaran, you’ll get underwater views from the same boat. If you’re on the Bahia de Benidorm, you’ll change to the Aquascope boat for the underwater viewing part.
For the return trip, you can catch any boat heading back to the mainland – they run every 60 minutes, so you can stay on the island as long as you like.
What to see underwater
The waters around the island reach depths of up to 20 metres and have a brilliant marine ecosystem that divers love. When you take the underwater viewing part of the trip, keep an eye out for:
- Bream
- Sarpa
- Scorpionfish
- Octopus
- Nudibranch
- Moray eels
What to do on Benidorm Island

Once you’re on the island, you can:
- Wander around and take in the amazing views of Benidorm’s skyline
- Visit the bar and restaurant on the island
- Look out for the peacocks that give the island its nickname
My top tips
- The excursion is dependent on good weather, so have a backup plan
- Take a camera for those stunning views back to the mainland
- Wear comfortable shoes for walking around the island
- Bring sun cream and a hat as there’s limited shade
- You might want to bring some water with you, although there’s a bar on the island
This little island might be small, but it makes for a fantastic few hours away from Benidorm’s beaches and gives you a different view of Benidorm!
