The wine selection is excellent – you’ll taste 7 wines including a barrel-fermented Chardonnay, Rosado Monastrell, and a premium sweet wine called Dolç de Mendoza that’s paired with Valor chocolates. The food pairing includes extra virgin olive oil, goat cheese, Spanish sausages, and cheese from the artisan Quesos Cerrón factory.
You’ll need to arrange your own transport for this one, but it’s only a 15-minute drive from Benidorm.
What to expect on a wine tour
Most tours start with a brief introduction to the winery’s history and the local wine-making traditions. You’ll usually visit the vineyard first to see where the grapes are grown, then move on to the production areas where you’ll learn about fermentation and aging processes.
The tasting sessions are always my favourite part! You’ll typically try between 3-7 different wines, depending on the tour. The guides are brilliant at explaining the characteristics of each wine and what makes them special. Don’t worry if you’re not a wine expert – they’ll explain everything in simple terms.
Food pairings are included on all tours, usually featuring local foods like olive oil, cheese, jamón, and traditional Spanish appetizers. It’s a great way to understand how Spanish wines complement local cuisine.
Planning your wine tour
Best time to visit: Spring and autumn are ideal as the weather is pleasant and you might catch harvest time. Summer tours are available but bear in mind that they can be quite warm.
What to wear: Comfortable walking shoes are essential as you’ll be walking around vineyards and cellars. Dress casually but respectfully.
Booking: I recommend booking in advance, especially during peak season. Most tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Languages: All tours mentioned offer English-speaking guides, with some also available in Spanish and Russian.
Getting there
Some tours include transport from Benidorm, while others require you to make your own way.
If you need to drive, most wineries above are within 15-30 minutes of Benidorm. Benidorm taxi services are available if you prefer not to drive after wine tasting.
