What is Mundomar?

Mundomar is Benidorm’s local marine life park, home to dolphins, sea lions, exotic birds, and reptiles. It’s not just about watching animals perform – this place is genuinely committed to conservation and education, which really sets it apart from other attractions in the area.

The park has been operating since 1996 and sits on a hillside location that gives you stunning views over Benidorm and the Mediterranean Sea. You’ll spend hours here easily, so plan for a full day visit.

Getting to Mundomar

Mundomar is located about 4 kilometres from Benidorm centre, up in the hills of Sierra Helada. Its right opposite Benidorm’s waterpark, Aqualandia Benidorm. Parking in Mundomar is free if you’re travelling by car!

The address is C/ Sierra Helada s/n · 03503, Benidorm (Alicante).

If you’re travelling by Benidorm tram, the tickets to Aqualandia and Mundomar include a return trip by the tram and bus to the gates of the parks. Make sure you get a direct bus from the Benidorm station to the Parks.

What to see at Mundomar

When visiting, you can see all of the animals in their exhibitions while visiting the three main shows – the dolphin show, the sea lion show, and the parrot show. These are all included in your ticket for free – so I recommend structuring your visit to see animals near to scheduled show times.

Dolphin shows

The dolphin presentations are absolutely the main event here and a local favourite. The show is 30 minutes long, and you will see the dolphin perform acrobatics, high jumps and skills, all in perfect coordination with each other and music.

The coaches also select children from the audience to participate on a boat ride alongside dolphins!

I’ve watched the dolphin show several times in my life (since I was little!), and I’ve always stunned by how smart and incredible these animals are. The connection between the dolphins and their trainers is really something special to witness.

Shows typically run 2-3 times per day, so check the schedule when you arrive and plan your visit around these times.

Dolphin show times:

  • 13:30
  • 16:15

Sea lion performances

The sea lions are hilarious! These playful animals put on such an entertaining show, and the trainers do a brilliant job of explaining their natural behaviours and abilities, making it educational for the audience.

You may also get chosen to participate in the show and get closer to these majestic animals!

What I love the most about Mundomar is how they balance the entertainment with genuine education about these marine mammals and their conservation needs.

Sea lion show times:

  • 12:15
  • 17:15

Parrot show

The parrot show is absolutely brilliant – it tells the story of exotic parrots who were once the kings of the forest but got dethroned from their kingdom. Now they’re on a mission to win it back!

You’ll watch these intelligent birds navigate through trials and obstacles that really showcase their incredible skills and abilities. It’s such a clever way to combine entertainment with education about these amazing creatures .Next to the food court will find the room where the show is set, so you can enjoy the show while you savour the delicious food of our Snack Bar or Self Service.

Parrot show times:

  • 11:15
  • 15:00

Exotic birds

The bird collection here is impressive, featuring everything from colourful parrots to majestic flamingos. The tropical bird show is particularly good – you’ll see birds flying freely around the amphitheatre, which is quite a sight.

If you’re visiting with children, they’ll love the interactive bird experiences where some of the friendlier parrots might even perch on their shoulders for photos.

Reptile house

The reptile collection includes tortoises from around the world. The tortoise enclosure is particularly popular with kids – these gentle giants are always a hit.

Practical information for your visit

Opening hours and prices

Mundomar is typically open from 10am to 6pm during summer months, with slightly reduced hours in winter. I’d recommend checking their official website before your visit as times can vary.

Adult tickets cost around 20€, while children (3-12 years) pay about 16€. Children under 3 get in free. If you’re staying in Benidorm for several days, look out for combo tickets that include other local attractions like Terra Natura.

Best time to visit

I’d suggest arriving when the park opens at 10am. You’ll beat the crowds, get the best parking or shuttle bus seats, and have more time to see everything at a relaxed pace.

Summer can get quite busy, particularly during Spanish school holidays in July and August. If you’re visiting then, weekdays are definitely less crowded than weekends.

What to bring

  • Sunscreen and hats – there’s limited shade in some areas
  • Comfortable walking shoes as you’ll be doing quite a bit of walking uphill
  • Camera for those amazing photo opportunities
  • Water bottle, though there are cafes and restaurants on site

The hillside location means you’ll be doing some walking on inclines, so comfortable shoes are essential.

Food and facilities

There are several restaurants and cafes throughout the park serving everything from quick snacks to full meals. The prices are what you’d expect at a tourist attraction, so not particularly cheap, but the quality is decent.

The main restaurant has a lovely terrace with views over Benidorm, making it a pleasant spot for lunch.

Tips for families

If you’re visiting with young children, I’d recommend starting with the dolphin show as it tends to be the most captivating for little ones. The park provides pushchair-friendly paths, though some areas can be quite steep.

There are baby changing facilities and a first aid station, plus the staff are generally very helpful if you need assistance.

The gift shop is, as expected, quite expensive, so you might want to set expectations with the kids before you enter!

Photography at Mundomar

The setting is absolutely perfect for photos, with the Mediterranean backdrop and the hills of Benidorm. During the shows, photography is allowed, but flash isn’t permitted as it can disturb the animals.

The viewpoints around the park offer some spectacular shots of the coastline – don’t miss the opportunity to capture some memories of your day out.

MundoMar Foundation and social programs

MundoMar operates through the Fundación Aqualandia-Mundomar, which focuses on environmental education, marine biology research, and social programs. I know there are different opinions about marine parks, but it’s worth mentioning some of the work they do.

The foundation conducts its own scientific research on marine environment conservation and supports research by other organisations. Since 2001, they’ve been running free dolphin therapy programs for children with physical and mental disabilities, including cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, autism, and other conditions. Over 4,000 children have participated in these programs, with families from across Spain and Europe taking part at no cost.

The foundation also runs educational programs for schools and universities, focusing on marine biology and environmental awareness. They work with academic institutions on research projects and offer courses about nature conservation.

Planning your visit

I’d recommend allowing at least 4-5 hours for your visit to Mundomar. This gives you time to see all the shows, wander around the different enclosures, and have a relaxed lunch with those amazing views.

If you’re staying in central Benidorm, it makes a perfect half-day trip, or full-day trip paired with Aqualandia Benidorm.

Mundomar really is a fantastic day out for families, and even if you’re not usually into animal parks, the combination of entertainment, education, and those incredible views makes it well worth the visit. The dolphins alone are worth the entry fee, and you’ll come away with a much better understanding of these amazing marine creatures.
