If you’ve got kids (or you’re just an animal lover like me), you’re in for a real treat. There are amazing zoos on Benidorm’s doorstep to visit called Terra Natura and Mundomar. They are one of the best things you can do in Benidorm. I’ve been visiting these zoos since I was little, and they still amaze me every time I go.

Both parks are open for the 2025 summer season, and are brilliant for different reasons, and I’m going to share all my local tips about visiting them and how to have a fantastic day out.

Terra Natura Benidorm

Terra Natura is a massive wildlife park where you can see around 1,500 animals across 200 different species. What makes it even more special is how close you can get to the animals – they use invisible barriers so you feel like you’re right there with them.

The park takes up 79 acres and splits into four amazing zones:

  • America: You’ll come face to face with stunning animals from across North and South America. You’ll see some wonderful birds including bright toucans and parakeets, plus jaguars and ocelots prowling around their spaces.
  • Pangea: This section is all about the fascinating world of venomous creatures. You’ll spot green tree pythons, vipers, rattlesnakes, plus scorpions and poison dart frogs.
  • Asia: My favourite part! Here you can watch rhinos, tigers, Asian elephants, lions and siamangs going about their day.

The birds of prey show was a real standout for me. You can watch owls, hawks, vultures and eagles showing off their flying skills. The shows run from 12pm to 5pm, Tuesday through Sunday.

If you want something extra special, book the elephant education experience. You’ll spend time learning all about these amazing animals and the work being done to protect them. It costs €20 per person.

During the summer, you can get a combined ticket for both Terra Natura and its sister Benidorm water park, Aqua Natura, which is heaps of fun. I would recommend splitting out both over two days!

Getting to Terra Natura from Benidorm

Terra Natura is just a 10-minute drive from Benidorm centre. You can take a Benidorm taxi or catch the number 21 bus from Benidorm centre – it drops you right outside the entrance.

Terra Natura opening times and tickets

The park stays open all year round from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, whatever the Benidorm weather.

The park is open again for the summer season! Adult tickets are currently €33 for adults, and €27 for children and seniors. Under-4s go free.

Mundomar Benidorm

If you’re interested in sea life, you’ll love Mundomar. It’s an aquatic zoo located next to another water park in Benidorm called Aqualandia. This marine animal park is quite different from typical zoos – it’s more compact and focused on sea life and birds. Let me share everything you need to know about visiting.

The park has recently opened in April for the summer season again!

The shows are the real standouts here – they’re what makes Mundomar so special. Here’s what you can see:

Dolphin show

The dolphins are incredible, and the trainers are brilliant at showing off their natural behaviours. You’ll see them:

  • Swimming at high speeds
  • Doing synchronized jumps
  • Playing with rings and balls
  • Interacting with their trainers

Shows run twice daily at 1:30pm and 4:30pm. Get there 15 minutes early to grab good seats – they fill up fast.

Sea lion show

The sea lions are such characters – they’re funny, clever and full of personality. Shows happen at 12:45pm and 5:45pm. My tip? Sit in the middle rows – the front ones can get a bit splashed!

Parrot show

These bright, clever birds put on an amazing display three times daily (11:15am, 2:30pm, and 3:30pm). It’s fascinating to see them solve puzzles and interact with their trainers.

Getting to Mundomar

Mundomar sits just next to Terra Natura, about a 10-minute drive from central Benidorm. You can take a taxi or hop on the number 21 bus.

Mundomar opening times

The park opens daily during the summer (until September 8th, 2024), and opens on a reduced schedule in the Autumn, until November.

  • Opening times: 10:00am – 7:00pm

Ticket prices are currently 27 for adults, and 22 or children.

What time of year should I visit the zoos?

I’ve visited these zoos in every season, and they’re brilliant year-round. That said, I’d recommend going in spring (March-May) or autumn (September-November).

The weather’s perfect – not too hot for walking around, and the animals tend to be more active. Plus, you’ll find smaller crowds than in peak summer.

Tips for visiting the zoos

After countless visits, here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Book your tickets online – it’s usually a bit cheaper than paying at the gate
  • Start your day early, around opening time at 10am. The animals are most active in the morning, and you’ll miss the midday heat
  • Bring water bottles – you can fill them up at drinking fountains around both parks
  • Pack some snacks, but both parks have nice cafes if you want a proper meal
  • Wear comfy shoes – you’ll be doing lots of walking!
  • Bring suncream – the Costa Blanca sun is strong
  • Consider the combo tickets if you’re planning to visit the water parks too
  • Both zoos offer annual passes which are great value if you’re staying longer or visiting multiple times

Which zoo should I visit?

I love both parks for different reasons:

Terra Natura is brilliant if you want to see lots of different land animals. It’s bigger, more spread out, and has those amazing invisible barriers I mentioned. My kids are always amazed by the elephants and tigers.

Mundomar is perfect if you’re interested in marine life and want to see some incredible shows. The dolphin performances are still just as magical as when I first saw them as a child.

If you’ve got time, I’d really suggest visiting both. They’re completely different experiences, and each one is worth a full day out, especially with little ones. Both zoos are on my list of top things to do in the Costa Blanca as they provide such an amazing day out for family and friends.
