January

The weather in January is cool but pleasant during the day, with temperatures rarely dropping below 6°C even at night. You’ll get plenty of crisp, sunny winter days perfect for exploring, though you’ll definitely need layers.

This is perfect weather for hiking Calpe Rock – you won’t overheat on the climb! While it’s too cold for swimming, you can enjoy day walks along Playa Arenal-Bol or explore the winding streets of the Old Town.

The fishing port is especially lively as this is peak fishing season.

February

The weather in February starts to warm up slightly, with many sunny days throughout the month. Nights are still quite cold, so you’ll want to pack layers if you’re planning evening walks along the promenade.

In the nearby town called Jalon, the almond trees are often in bloom this month, making it especially beautiful for photography.

March

March brings the first real hints of spring to Calpe, with noticeably warmer days and more hours of sunshine. The landscape starts coming alive with wildflowers, especially around the Peñón de Ifach Natural Park.

April

April really feels like spring has arrived in Calpe. The days get noticeably longer and warmer, though you might catch the occasional April shower. These showers keep the surrounding hills beautifully green and full of wildflowers.

May

May brings what I consider perfect weather to Calpe – not too hot but not cold either. The days are consistently warm and sunny, but without the intense heat of summer.

The town is considerably quieter too as the tourist season hasn’t started just yet, but the summer activities are starting. You’ll see the first beach-goers setting up their umbrellas on warmer days. Beach season starts to kick off, though the sea is still refreshing! It’s a fantastic time for water sports like paddle boarding at Playa Arenal-Bol.

The weather is also perfect for hiking the Peñón de Ifach – warm enough to work up a sweat but not uncomfortably hot. Restaurant terraces start filling up in the evenings as temperatures stay pleasant after sunset.

June

Summer has officially arrived! June brings consistently warm, sunny days and the real start of beach season. The town starts to buzz with more visitors, but it’s not yet at peak summer crowds.

Evening drinks on the terraces of the Old Town are particularly lovely, with perfect temperatures for outdoor dining.

July

Peak summer weather hits Calpe! July brings hot, sunny days and warm nights. This is classic Mediterranean summer weather – perfect for beach lovers but plan indoor activities for the hottest part of the day.

August

August is Calpe’s hottest month! The town is buzzing with summer energy, and everything is open late into the evening. Days are hot and nights stay warm – perfect for that true Mediterranean summer experience.

September

September is often called the locals’ favorite month! You still get beautiful summer weather but with fewer crowds and slightly cooler temperatures. The sea remains wonderfully warm from the summer months.

Restaurant terraces are still busy but more relaxed, and you can easily get tables at the popular spots. The evening promenade along Arenal-Bol beach is particularly pleasant.

October

October brings lovely autumn weather to Calpe, with warm days and cooler evenings. The tourist crowds have largely gone, but the weather is still fantastic for outdoor activities.

November

November sees the transition to winter, though it’s still mild by northern European standards. Days can be beautifully sunny and perfect for outdoor activities, while evenings get noticeably cooler.

You’ll need layers for morning and evening, but midday can still be t-shirt weather. The restaurants around the port are less busy but still lively, especially for long lunches on sunny days.

December

December in Calpe is mild and often sunny, making it a perfect escape from colder northern climates. While it’s definitely winter, you’ll still get plenty of bright, clear days.

This is a wonderful time to explore Calpe’s cultural side – the Old Town is peaceful and atmospheric, and you can often have the hiking trails almost to yourself. While too cold for swimming, the beaches are perfect for winter walks, especially the stretch along Playa de la Fossa with views of the Peñón. The Christmas period brings a festive atmosphere to the town, with seasonal markets and events adding extra charm to the Old Town streets.

The town is quieter now, giving you a chance to experience more local life. It’s a great time to explore the Saturday market without the crowds, or enjoy long, leisurely lunches at the port restaurants. On clear days, the views from the Peñón de Ifach are particularly spectacular, stretching all the way to Ibiza on the horizon.

Best Time to Visit Calpe

If you’re after beach weather but want to avoid the peak crowds and prices, I’d recommend:

  • Late May to early June
  • September to early October

These months give you perfect weather for both beach days and exploring, without the intense summer heat and crowds.
