I’ve put together my favourite day trips you can take from Calpe – perfect if you want to see more of what the Costa Blanca offers during your trip to Calpe!

There’s tons to see nearby and only a short drive or tram ride from Calpe tram station away – from stunning mountain towns to gorgeous port towns and much more.
I’ve included the most nearby towns and cities to visit, and of course include some brilliant activities and experiences to try while you’re there.
Altea

Drive time from Calpe: 15 minutes south
The moment you step into Altea, you’ll feel like you’ve been whisked away to a Greek island! The narrow streets wind up the hill, lined with white-painted houses leading to that famous blue-domed church at the top. There’s so many lovely things to do in Altea, and it’s really nearby which makes it a top spot for a day out from Calpe.
What I love about Altea:
- The Tuesday market is fantastic – arrive early to find the best local crafts and fresh produce
- The old town comes alive at night with amazing restaurants tucked away in tiny squares
- The promenade is perfect for an evening stroll, with plenty of spots for dinner with sea views
My top tip when visiting Altea
Head up to the church square around sunset – the views across the bay are incredible, and the local artists set up their stalls, making it really special.
Benidorm

Drive time from Calpe: 25 minutes south
Most people think they know Benidorm from the TV show, but there’s so much more to it than the famous skyscrapers! From amazing beaches, to brilliant Spanish restaurants away from the tourist spots and even Benidorm’s own water parks, I’ve found loads of amazing things to do in Benidorm over the years which I’ve written up a complete guide on (and which you should check out).
What I love about Benidorm:
- The Benidorm Old Town has kept its Spanish charm with tiny streets full of tapas bars
- If you’re looking for big night out instead of a day out, check out the Benidorm nightlife
- Benidorm’s water parks are well worth the visit in summer, with some of the tallest slides in Europe. They make amazing days out with family and friends
- Also Benidorm’s zoos are well worth the visit all year round
- Take the boat to Isla de Benidorm (Benidorm Island)
For something special, head up to the Cross viewpoint at sunset – you’ll get amazing views across both bays and can spot the skyscrapers glowing in the evening light.
Guadalest

Drive time from Calpe: 40 minutes inland
Sitting high up in the mountains, Guadalest is one of Spain’s most striking villages. The castle seems to grow right out of the rock, and the views across the valley and reservoir are simply amazing.
Best bits of Guadalest:
- The castle entrance through a tunnel carved in the rock
- Boat trips on the bright turquoise reservoir (€15 per person in summer)
- Quirky museums including one full of tiny sculptures you need a magnifying glass to see!
Javea

Drive time from Calpe: 30 minutes north
Javea (or Xàbia) is split into three main areas – the old town, the port, and the Arenal beach area. Each has its own character, making it feel like three towns in one!
My favourite spots:
- The Javea old town is a lovely place to stroll throughout the day, and there’s a weekly market on Thursdays – brilliant for fresh local produce
- Visit the Arenal beach during the evening and dine out in it’s wonderful selection of restaurants
Moraira

Drive time from Calpe: 25 minutes north
Moraira keeps its Spanish fishing village charm while offering some of the nicest beaches in the area. The mix of local life and upmarket restaurants makes it really special.
What makes Moraira worth visiting from Calpe:
- Moraira’s main beach L’Ampolla beach, which is a sandy bay right by the town centre. You can see Calpe rock in the distance!
- Moraira’s Friday market – the Moraira market is a huge weekly market which fills their main carpark with local produce and crafts
- The Moraira castle sits right on the seafront. Make sure you get a photo! 📸
My tip? Try one of the restaurants around the marina – Book Bar is my favourite spot for watching the boats come and go while having a meal. 🛥️
Jalon

Drive time from Calpe: 35 minutes inland
The Jalon Valley (Vall de Pop) is where you’ll find vineyards stretching across the valley floor, surrounded by mountains. In February, the whole valley turns pink and white with almond blossoms – it’s magical! 🌸
What I love about Jalon:
- Local wine tasting at the bodegas – try the sweet moscatel wine the area is known for
- The Saturday morning market is one of the most visited markets in the region
- Jalon has many scenic walks – the river walk takes you through vineyards with mountain views
- If you’re a cyclist, Jalon is locally famous as a bike stop. There’s a wonderful bike bar and restaurant to visit called
Want to try something totally unique?
There’s a unique tour of the Cova del Rull caves – they’re 150 million years old with amazing rock formations inside which makes a fun and educational afternoon out.
Alicante

Drive time from Calpe: 45 minutes south
You might have even flown into Alicante Airport to get to Calpe, but it’s well worth visiting for a city day out. Alicante is home to the Santa Barbara Castle which watches over everything from its mountain perch, and the old quarter is full of life.
Best bits of Alicante:
- Take the lift up to Alicante Castle (Santa Barbara Castle) which costs from €3. It’s much easier than walking! The views are simply exquisite.
- The marble-paved Explanada is perfect for an evening walk
- Try local rice dishes at the traditional restaurants in the Santa Cruz quarter
My favourite time to visit? Early evening when everyone’s out for their walk along the marina, stopping for ice cream and watching street performers.
