Denia Golf Courses: A Complete Guide

If you’re looking to play some golf during your stay in Denia, you’re in luck! While Denia itself doesn’t have its own golf course, there are some fantastic options just a short drive away.

I’ll share all the best golf courses near Denia and in the nearby area.

La Sella Golf Course

This is the closest golf course to Denia, and it’s absolutely worth visiting. Just a 15-minute drive from Denia’s centre, sitting on the foot of the Montgo mountain, you’ll find La Sella Golf Course which offers 27 holes designed by José María Olazábal, twice Masters champion.

La Sella it caters to all skill levels. The course is divided into three 9-hole routes:

  • Llebeig: Perfect for beginners with wider fairways
  • Gregal: More technical, great for intermediate players
  • Mestral: The most challenging route with some tricky water hazards

The views here are incredible – you can see incredible views of the Montgó mountain while playing.

La Sella Costs & Info:

  • Green fees start from €85 (prices vary by season)
  • Club rental available
  • Buggy hire is recommended as there are some hilly sections
  • Excellent practice facilities including a driving range
  • On site golf chop
  • Restaurant with terrace overlooking the course

Club de Golf Oliva Nova

Club de Golf Oliva Nova is another fantastic option, about a 20-minute drive north of Denia. Designed by Severiano Ballesteros, it’s a championship course that’s hosted several professional tournaments.

The course is flatter than La Sella, making it easier to walk. What makes it special is how Seve designed each hole to have its own unique challenge – there’s plenty of water features and strategically placed bunkers to keep things interesting.

What You’ll Find at Oliva Nova:

  • 18-hole championship course
  • Green fees start from €45 for 9 holes and €90 for 18 holes (prices vary by season)
  • Excellent practice facilities
  • Modern clubhouse with restaurant
  • Pro shop with all the essentials
  • Golf academy with PGA professionals
  • Hotel on-site if you fancy staying over

Golf Club Jávea

While it’s a bit further (about 25 minutes from Denia) in Jávea, the Javea Golf Club offers a completely different experience. It’s a 9-hole course, but don’t let that fool you – it’s a great place for a relaxed round with friends.

It’s less touristy than the bigger courses, and you’ll often find yourself playing alongside locals. The course is quite technical despite its length, so it’s perfect if you want to work on your short game.

Golf Club Javea Costs & Info

  • Green fees start from €45 for 9 holes and €60 for 18 holes (prices vary by season)
  • Driving range cost is €10
  • Relaxed dress code
  • Excellent practice facilities
  • Lovely clubhouse with great food
  • Stunning views of the Montgó

Tips for Golfing Near Denia

From my experience, here are some helpful tips:

  1. Book in advance during peak season (July-August)
  2. Early morning tee times are best in summer to avoid the heat
  3. All courses offer club rental, but book ahead to ensure availability
  4. Consider twilight rates for better deals
  5. Most courses require soft spikes and proper golf attire

Best Time to Play

The best times to play golf here are:

  • March to May: Perfect temperatures as the weather in Denia and the surrounding areas gets milder. The golf courses are in prime condition
  • September to November: Still warm but not too hot, and fewer crowds

Summer can be quite hot, so if you’re playing then, I’d definitely recommend an early morning tee time from 6.30am onwards, and plenty of water.
