Planning a trip to beautiful Formentera from Denia? The ferry is the most direct (and in my opinion, the most enjoyable) way to travel.

I’ve put together this guide to help you take the ferry from Denia Port straight to Formentera. You’ll find all the information you need about ferry times, booking your tickets, and what to expect during your trip.
You buy tickets directly on Direct Ferries through this link. I’ll show a step-by-step booking process further down in the article.

Looking to travel to Ibiza instead? Check out my Denia to Ibiza ferry guide for everything you need to know.
Ferry options from Denia to Formentera
The main ferry operator running services between Denia and Formentera is Balearia. They offer:
- More frequent sailings during summer months
- High-speed ferries that take around 2-3 hours
- Regular services throughout the week
During peak season (June-September), ferries run much more often, but I’d always suggest booking in advance. This is particularly important if you’re travelling with a vehicle or during busy times like summer weekends or holidays.
Finding the Denia ferry terminal
The ferries leave from Denia’s ferry terminal, which is located near the town centre. It’s easy to reach by car or on foot if you’re staying in Denia.
See the Denia ferry terminal on the Map below:

Denia to Formentera Ferry Ticket Prices
Ferry ticket prices vary based on the season, time of booking, and whether you’re bringing a car.
For a foot passenger, prices typically range from €40-€100 if you book tickets in advance while taking a car can cost around €200 or more depending on vehicle size and season.
Ticket prices change based on:
- Whether you’re bringing a vehicle (I would recommend hiring a moped on the island which you can book here, the island is not so big you need to bring your car)
- The season (summer is more expensive)
- How far in advance you book

You can choose seat types for the trip, whether to have a table, first-class, or reserved seat. This will increase the cost of your tickets.

The Baleria ferry will travel to La Savina, in the Port of Formentera. See the ferry station below.
Boarding the ferry
What to expect on board
Once on the ferry, you’ll find several amenities:
- A bar and café
- Comfortable seating areas
- In some cases, outdoor decks
For the best views as you approach Formentera, head up to the deck – it’s a fantastic way to arrive at the island! You’ll arrive within 2 hours and 15 minutes to the beautiful island.
Once you arrive
If you plan to visit multiple places around Formentera, instead of taking your car on the ferry, I recommend hiring a moped once you get on the island.
There are a few moped rental companies as soon as you arrive on the island, including Formentera Rent Scooter and Cooltra Formentera.

Flying to Ibiza then taking a ferry to Formentera
You can fly to Ibiza from Alicante, and then take a short ferry from Ibiza to Formentera (this takes about 30 minutes). However, this is a much longer and more costly option than travelling via ferry directly to Formentera.
Flying from Alicante Airport to Ibiza
Alicante Airport is the closest airport to Denia, and it offers several daily flights to Ibiza. Flying takes around 30 minutes, making it the fastest option if you’re looking to save time.
- Getting to Alicante Airport: Alicante Airport is about an hour’s drive from Denia (roughly 104km). You can read about travelling between Alicante airport and Denia.
You can then book a ferry from Ibiza to Formentera using Direct Ferries. There are frequent sailings daily which take about 30 minutes to travel between the islands.
Which option is best for you?
If you’re not in a rush and want to enjoy the Mediterranean scenery, the direct ferry from Denia is by far the most enjoyable option. The sea journey itself is part of the experience!
If you’re short on time, flying to Ibiza then taking the short ferry crossing might be more efficient, but it involves more steps and potentially more stress with transfers.
For a relaxed start to your holiday, I’d always recommend the direct ferry option from Denia.
