Dénia is a historical coastal town sitting along the Mediterranean coastline.
Denia is located exactly halfway between Alicante and Valencia, sitting on the north-side of the Montgo Mountain, not far from Javea. On a sunny clear day, if you look at the sea, you can see the outlines of the Balearic islands. Ferries even travel from Denia to Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca.
I’ve written a complete guide to Denia, with helpful links to other resources to help you plan the trip of a lifetime.
Areas in Denia
Denia Old Town
Denia’s Old Town is the heart of the city, where every street and corner holds a piece of history. From the Dénia Castle with its breathtaking views and fascinating past, to the charming Les Roques neighborhood, which still echoes the city’s Arab roots, there is plenty to see in this part of Denia.
The Denia I’ve written up a dedicated guide to exploring the Denia Old Town and what to see!
Castle of Denia (Castell de Denia)
The Castle of Dénia (Castell de Denia) is a Moorish castle, on a rocky crag overlooking the heart of the town. It was built in the 11th and 12th century and offers views around the sea, the city and the surrounding area.
You can visit the castle for as little as €3 per ticket for an adult, see its historical artifacts, the views, and even stop for a drink at a cafe at the top. Find more information about the Denia castle here.
Marques de Campo street
Lined with trees, shops, cafes, hotels and even offices, Marques de Campo is considered to be the centre of Denia.
Many of the town’s festive events take place on the Marqués de Campo street, including the Moors and Christians parades, the Three wisemen, entry of bulls in the patron saint festivities of July, markets and others.
Denia Marina
Marina de Denia is a sport and leisure harbour, where you can admire the beautiful coastline and all the boats docked in the marina. You can also travel by ferry directly from here – I’ve written up a guide on travelling from Denia to Ibiza by ferry.
Plaza San Antonio
The San Antonio square is located near the seafront. The square is filled with quaint bars and restaurants, all with outdoor seating and creating a buzzing atmosphere. It’s one of my favourite places to go for drinks and dinner with friends.
Denia’s beaches
Denia is lined with around 20 kilometres of beaches – if you’re planning to visit any of Denia’s beaches, you have plenty of options to choose from.
These beaches are:
- Les Deveses
- Els Molins
- Bovetes
- Marines
- Les Albaranes
- Punta del Raset
- Marineta Cassiana
- Las Rotas
What’s the weather like in Denia?
Dénia’s weather is fantastic all-year round as it enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, making it a great destination to visit year-round. During the summer months, from June to September, temperatures range from 25°C to 30°C, with plenty of sunshine and warm sea temperatures ideal for swimming.
In winter, temperatures are mild, averaging between 10°C and 16°C. This is a great time to visit if you prefer a quieter atmosphere and enjoy outdoor activities like hiking in Montgó Natural Park.
What language is spoken in Denia?
While Spanish is the predominant language, most locals also speak Valenciano (Catalan).
In touristic areas such as the beachfront, English is widely understood, so you won’t have any trouble getting by. That said, learning a few basic Spanish phrases is always appreciated and will help you in places like shops and restaurants.
Denia’s population
According to the Denia census, there are about 45,000 people living in Denia, which doubles over the summer season.
Around 32% of this number is made up of foreigners. These represent over 100 nationalities, namely German, British, Italian, French, Columbian, and Ukrainian.
Where are the nearest airports to Denia?

These include renting a car, taking a private airport shuttle, using a public bus shuttle, a bus or a Denia taxi service.
I’ve written travel guides about getting from Alicante airport to Denia which you can read to help you plan your journey.
