The route takes you past some absolutely stunning spots including Cala del Bol Nou, Cala de l’Esparrelló, and Cala de La Caleta. These are some of the most beautiful coves in the area, and many of them are only accessible by water.

One of my favourite parts is when you paddle past the tourist areas and into the wilder cliff sections. Here you’ll stop at a secluded cove that’s perfect for swimming and snorkelling. The water is so clear you’ll see loads of marine life!

The tour continues to Playa del Charco where you’ll get spectacular views of the Torre del Xarco – an old watchtower that was built to spot pirate ships. It’s quite impressive seeing it from the sea!

The route takes you away from the crowds and into some really wild and beautiful coastline. You’ll paddle past Cala Erizos and Cala Fonda – two absolutely gorgeous natural coves that feel completely untouched.

At Cala Erizos, you’ll have plenty of time for swimming and snorkelling. The underwater life here is fantastic, and it’s one of the best spots along this stretch of coast for seeing fish and marine plants.

The tour starts at Xarco beach, which is one of the few dog-friendly beaches in the area. Your guides will spend time getting your dog comfortable with the kayak before you head out – most dogs are a bit curious at first but soon love the experience!

You’ll paddle south towards Carritxal Beach, enjoying the spectacular cliff views along the way. The route uses really calm waters, which is perfect for dogs who might be nervous about their first kayaking experience.

There’s also an alternative route heading north to La Caleta and l’Esparrelló beaches, which includes more dramatic cliffs and a lovely beach walk break. Your dog will love the chance to stretch their legs and explore!

The kayaks used for this tour are specially designed for dogs – they’re open and self-bailing, which means your pet can move around comfortably and safely. You can choose single or double kayaks depending on whether you’re coming alone or as a couple with your pet.

Tips for your Villajoyosa kayaking adventure

Having done several of these tours myself, here are some really useful tips to make your experience even better:

Pack light but smart – bring swimwear, a t-shirt that can get wet, sun cream, and a hat with a chin strap. Water shoes are absolutely brilliant if you have them, as some of the coves have rocky areas.

The tours typically run from May through October when the sea conditions are at their best. Summer months can get quite busy, so I’d recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred time slot.

Most tours are suitable for complete beginners, but you should be comfortable swimming and reasonably fit. Children usually need to be at least 8-10 years old, though this varies by tour operator.

Bring a waterproof phone case if you want to take your own photos – though most tours include professional photos anyway! A small towel and change of clothes for afterwards is also really handy.

Other water activities in Villajoyosa

If you love your kayaking experience and want to try more water sports during your stay, Villajoyosa offers some other brilliant options too.

You can rent stand-up paddleboards from several locations along the main beaches – it’s a great workout and another fantastic way to see the coastline. There are also boat trips available from the harbour that take you further along the coast to spots you can’t reach by kayak.

The diving here is excellent too, with several local schools offering courses for beginners and guided dives for more experienced divers. The underwater visibility is fantastic, and there’s loads of marine life to see.
